There’s no doubt about it, creating a human being is hard work. A woman’s body goes through so many physical changes that back pain, hip pain and sciatica, calf cramps, neck pain and headaches are common pregnancy ailments. Most people view prenatal massage as spa luxury that allows a woman to relax for an hour and be pampered. While those massages are great too, we feel the most important part of massage for pregnant women should be pain relief and prevention of symptoms to allow for the best pregnancy possible. As the body changes through the trimesters, especially in the weeks before delivery, it is important that the soft tissue is able to adjust to the structural changes in the pelvis and ligament laxity. We also help to address swelling of the legs and hands in the third trimester to make the mother as comfortable as possible.
Our Neuromuscular treatment for pregnancy focuses on the piriformis muscle to decrease sciatica, glute medius to help with SI joint and lower back pain, trapezius, levator and posterior cervicals to decrease headaches and neck tension, and gastrocnemius and the sole of the foot to help with calf and foot cramps. We also offer prenatal massage that treats specific areas of pain in the context of a full body massage for a more relaxing treatment.
Massage and bodywork is one of the most important components to having a great pregnancy, and also a quicker recovery post-delivery. And when you have neck and back pain from feeding your new bundle of joy, we can help with that, too!
